So, after some more sanding and buffing, bondo, paint, sanding, etc, I got to a point where I was happy with the tail section (at least for a while and at least the top half of it). SO, I decided to do some test fitting with the undercoating painted on the tail...
You can see with the tinted tail light (which looks blue when the camera flashes it but I assure you is grey when the tail light lights up) the whole rear end is starting to come together (after two major no-go's along the way).
Next up was to paint the top coats of the tail section. This caused some problems (naturally) as my impatience can sometimes get the best of me. So, having base coats down, I masked off some areas to stay the base coat color and then I painted over the whole thing in black. Because the base coat was still a bit damp, I didn't want to leave the masking on too long so I decided to pull the tape while the top coats were still tacky (also I was told this would help with the crispness of the lines). When it came time to pull the tape for the side sections off, I needed something to grip onto. Since I had already demasked the "daggers" on the top of the tail and they were about the distance between my thumb and pinky finger, I decided to put those fingers on the base coat daggers and use that to help stabilize the tail while I pulled the rest of the tape off. Everything was going great. I got the sides off nice and cleanly and as I was looking up to marvel at my awesomeness, I realized that all five of my fingers were now touching the tail (meaning the three in the middle were in tacky black paint with part of the side of my palm). I had pressed so hard into it that it left PERFECT fingerprint impressions in the paint and actually took more than gravity to pull off of my hand...Here's how that looked...
That's pretty much it for right now...more work coming
